Top SF Giants pitching prospect earns Northwest League Pitcher of the Month honors for August

Despite earning a late-season promotion, Jacob Bresnahan put together a notable stretch to finish his time with the Eugene Emeralds. The top SF Giants prospect earned Northwest League Pitcher of the Month honors for August.

There is a good debate of where Bresnahan sits among the top Giants pitching prospects. Before the draft and trade deadline, he was clearly the team’s top pitching prospect.

However, they have bolstered that area in a big way since then. Jackson Flora, Carson Bolemon, and Kaden Waechter headlined the 2026 draft class. On the other hand, Ramon Marquez was among the many pitchers the Giants added at the trade deadline.

Coming off a strong year on the mound, Marquez has positioned himself as one of the top pitching prospects in baseball. Unfortunately, he only made one start with the Eugene Emeralds before landing on the injured list. With less than two weeks to go in the season, it is a race against the schedule for him to come back.

Flora is now regarded as the top pitching prospect in the organization. Who comes after that is up for debate. Most outlets have Marquez ahead of Jacob Bresnahan. However, Bresnahan has already reached Double-A before the end of his age-21 season, becoming one of the younger starters in that league.

Before his promotion, the southpaw pitching prospect hit his stride against High-A hitters. He missed most of the first month due to an injury, and got off to a slow start.

However, as the weather warmed up, so did Bresnahan’s performance. Showing improvement as the season progresses is often a good sign for development and adjustment to a new level.

In his final nine games with Eugene, he posted a 2.28 ERA with 63 strikeouts and 15 walks in 51.1 innings. This includes a stellar August, where he recorded a 2.86 ERA in four outings.

The Giants decided that they have seen enough and moved Bresnahan up another level to finish out the year. He has made one start for the Richmond Flying Squirrels. Bresnahan tossed five innings, allowing three earned runs with eight strikeout and five walks. Th left-handed pitcher has surpassed the 100-inning mark for the first time in his young pro career.
