Randy Rodríguez and Erik Miller are currently listed on the 60-day injured list. That lever will disappear once the offseason begins, so the SF Giants will need to activate them from the injured list.

Technically, Tom Murphy is also still on the 60-day injured list. However, he will become a free agent once free agency opens.

Two offseasons ago, Murphy signed a two-year, $8.25 million pact with the Giants. This includes a team option for 2026 that will almost certainly be bought out. He collected 38 plate appearances before finishing the remainder of his Giants tenure on the injured list.

In terms of sequence of events, players will elect free agency first, followed by activating players from the 60-day injured list. Along with Murphy, Justin Verlander, Wilmer Flores, and Dominic Smith are slated to hit free agency.

Randy Rodríguez and Erik Miller will then need to be activated from the 60-day injured list. This maneuver will bring them back to the 40-man roster.

Rodríguez will likely spend the entire 2026 season on the injured list, as he underwent Tommy John surgery. He will need to occupy a spot on the 40-man roster until the 60-day injured list opens up again next spring.

The hard-throwing reliever had a strong 2025 season that saw him earn an NL All-Star bid. Overall, he pitched to a 1.78 ERA in 50 appearances. He took over as the team’s closer after Camilo Doval was traded to the New York Yankees.

On the other hand, Miller was the only southpaw reliever in the first half of the year.  He recorded a 1.50 ERA in 36 outings before finishing the year on the injured list with an elbow sprain. This included 22 strikeouts and 20 walks in 30 innings of work.

Once Miller returns, he should be joined be a pair of lefty relievers in Joey Lucchesi and Matt Gage. All three performed well in platoon matchups on 2025. While the rest of the bullpen likely needs to be rebuilt, that area of the unit should be relatively set.
