The SF Giants started at scheduled first pitch time on Tuesday against the Atlanta Braves but the rain was already coming down pretty hard. Now play has been delayed prior to the bottom of the 2nd inning although there has been no official word yet. This is not the first time rain has impacted the Giants as of late.
The Giants were leading 3-2 and it seemed at first like the maintenance crew was just coming on to try to apply more dirt to the field to cover up some wet spots but that dragged out for a while. Both teams stayed in their respective dugouts and didn’t return to the clubhouse at first but eventually went back to the clubhouse when the delay dragged on.
Giants relievers now coming in from the bullpen as we enter minute 35 of this non-delay delay.

There have been literally no announcements to fans or media inside the stadium lol https://t.co/BSGbyIb8oG
Umpires were consulting with both Giants manager Tony Vitello and Braves manager Walt Weiss to try and determine how to proceed. The teams are set to play three games in the series and all three games are supposed to be impacted by rain.
The southeast can be a very rainy part of the country during the summer with all that humidity so this doesn’t come as a huge shock. It’s a bit strange that the game even started because it was clear rain was in the forecast. It seems clear that the Braves and grounds crew didn't have the best plan for pretty predictable circumstances.
Rain will impact entire series in Atlanta
The delay lasted so long that it is probable both pitchers will not be able to continue. Adrian Houser pitched just the bottom of the first and gave up two runs so if the game does resume the Giants will likely have to turn to another pitcher which will have ramifications for the rest of the series.
(No) Update: There is still no update on when or if play will resume according to Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Still absolutely no word or announcement on if/when the game will resume. Grounds crew still working and it appears all players have retreated to the clubhouse. Rain stopped (?) https://t.co/hvjFlkcFDT

It's really bizarre that there has not been any information communicated. Clearly both teams want to get the game in so no one wants to call it but at some point they are going to have to decide if it is even worth it especially if more rain falls and makes the field unplayable.
Actual update: According to Evan Webeck of the New York Post, the goal is to resume play at 10 PM EST or 8 PM PST.
Tony Vitello and Walt Weiss out there inspecting the infield now. If they sign off, teams are targeting 10 pm ET to resume play. https://t.co/HcKwNCaHGI

Update to the update: Webeck reports the managers are still deliberating and the tarp is coming out on the field now.
They're still talking! This has taken so long that it has resumed raining again. And, for the first time, the tarp is coming out. Boos from the fans, a good chunk of whom are still here despite zero in-stadium messaging from the Braves.

Final update: Per Rubin, "The game is officially suspended and will resume tomorrow at 2 p.m. ET for a double header. Second game will start at 7:15."
