Star SF Giants third baseman Matt Chapman is a key leader on the team. Not only does he lead with his play, he is also an emotional leader for the club and he recently spoke about what it means to be a San Francisco Giant.

In a sit-down interview shared on the team's social media, Chapman spoke about the pride he has being a Giant: "Until you get in the uniform and get in the building and feel how much pride and passion this organization has for being a Giant, it means something when you put this jersey on."

Chapman's desire to be a Giant and his love for the organization are palpable in his answer. The fact that Chapman signed a six-year contract extension with the Giants before last season ended gave us a sense that he was happy with where he was at and did not want to test free agency.

What he brings to the team on the field is obvious. He is a five-time Gold Glove Award winner and is also a key offensive threat. Early this season he has already shown why he is one of the best third basemen in all of baseball with unreal web gems and a key home run.

However, Chapman brings even more to the table when you consider his impact as a leader on the team. He is a guy that everyone in the locker room can look to as a guy who is going to set the tone for the ballclub every single day. He rarely takes a day off and plays hard every day which is exactly what you want in a leader.

It is no wonder why Buster Posey got involved in Chapman's extension talks last year even before he was the president of baseball operations. He knows how important is to have guys who are a presence both on the field and in the clubhouse which is why it was so essential to keep Chapman in San Francisco for a long time. Chapman is even the kind of player who could be a captain for San Francisco.

The fact that the veteran feels so passionate about being a part of the Giants is going to rub off on his teammates and it could even make San Francisco a more attractive destination for potential free agents as our own Jeff Young notes.

The Giants are trying to build something special in San Francisco and Chapman is going to be an essential part of it thanks to his skills and the pride he takes in being a Giant.
