SF Giants should trade Logan Webb to the one team that can stop the Dodgers

Maybe this is how the Giants can beat the Dodgers.

We know the SF Giants are saying they don’t want to trade their ace Logan Webb. President of baseball operations Buster Posey said the team is not listening to offers for him but if he keeps pitching this well the team may have no choice but to entertain trading him.

If they do, they might as well trade him to the team with the best chance of preventing the Los Angeles Dodgers from winning their third straight World Series title. As of right now, that team may very well be the Atlanta Braves.

The Braves have been struggling a bit as of late but they’ve still been very strong on the year. They already have plenty of former Giants on the team and could use a pitcher of Webb’s caliber especially since one of their best pitchers, Spencer Strider, is currently on the IL with an elbow issue.

Webb struggled to start the season but as of late he has been masterful. His ERA is now down to 3.09 on the season and he’s gone seven innings or more in each of his last four starts so he is showing everyone that he’s the same workhorse ace he’s been for years now.

It would not be easy for the Giants to trade Webb. He is a huge leader on the team and trading him would probably signal to the clubhouse and fans that the team does not plan to be competitive the next few seasons.

Yet, if the Giants got an incredible haul in exchange for him they may decide to pull the trigger and start building for the future. Perhaps if the Braves offered a haul of J.R. Ritchie, Eric Hartman, and Briggs McKenzie, three top-ten prospects in their system, that would be enough to get Posey to change his mind on Webb.

Trading Webb may be only way to prevent LA 3-peat

At this point, trading Webb might be the best thing to do for him. He hasn’t pitched in the playoffs since 2021 and his performance in the World Baseball Classic earlier this year shows that he can thrive when the spotlight is on him.

It really doesn’t feel like the Giants are going to seriously compete with the Dodgers anytime soon or at least challenge them for National League West supremacy so trading him to the Braves may be the best for all involved.

Just imagine Webb on a Braves team already filled with former Giants. If they can take down the Death Star in LA that would feel like a spiritual Giants victory so why not just deal all their best players to Atlanta? Throw Willy Adames in the deal and maybe even Robbie Ray and Luis Arraez just for good measure.

They can turn the Braves into the Southeast Giants and hope that they can knock out the Dodgers so they don’t win yet another title.
