SF Giants shortstop Willy Adames was given a very warm welcome on Friday night against his old team in the Milwaukee Brewers. He followed that welcome by belting the first pitch he saw into the seats for a home run.

It was an impressive swing of the bat made all the more impressive by the fact that Adames was back in Milwaukee for the first time since he signed with the Giants in free agency.

Adames received a standing ovation as he was announced and stepped into the box. He took a moment to remove his helmet and acknowledge the fans, wearing a yellow sleeve and yellow shoes to pay tribute to the time he spent in Milwaukee. Those cheers turned into boos though as he rounded the bases after crushing that homer.

Brewers fans obviously still have a lot of affection for Adames and the four seasons he spent in Milwaukee. He established himself as a fan-favorite and fans were certainly sad to see him depart the team in free agency.

From 2022 to 2024, Adames' three full seasons in Milwaukee, he slashed .236/.314/.443 with 87 home runs and 290 runs batted in. He was also a strong defender for much of that tenure so it is no surprise that he endeared himself to fans with his play as well as his attitude and energy.

He is seemingly continuing the hot streak he has been on with the Giants as of late. He has had the home run ball working and leads the team with his 21 big flies.

While Adames' first season with San Francisco has been uneven and got off to a rough start, he has come out of his funk and is starting to deliver for the Giants. On the season, Adames is slashing .223/.312/404 with 21 home runs and 64 runs batted in. Those numbers do not fly off the page, but they are definitely an improvement over where he was at earlier in the year.

To Adames' credit, even when he was struggling he remained a good leader and was a constant source of positivity for the club. That sort of leadership and energy is invaluable in a clubhouse even if the team has fallen off a cliff as of late.

Fans in San Francisco are finally starting to understand why there is still so much love for Adames in Milwaukee. Maybe one day he will earn a standing ovation of his own in San Francisco. He has six more seasons to keep making memories in a Giants uniform.
