The SF Giants saw a modest bump in the latest power rankings after going 3-3 last week. MLB published its Weekly Power Rankings on Monday, with the Giants jumping to the No. 7 spot.

They were at No. 8 last week, but moved up one spot. The Los Angeles Dodgers were unseated at the top spot. The Philadelphia Phillies took that over, moving from No. 6 to No. 1. The Dodgers are now at No. 2.

The Giants are not only second in the NL West at the moment, but they are second among NL West teams in the power rankings. Not surprisingly, these rankings are often a pulse of where the team is at and where they sit in the standings.

The San Diego Padres fell to No. 9, whereas the Arizona Diamondbacks are in the middle of the pack at No. 15. The Padres have hit a rough patch, going 3-7 in their last 10 games. In a bit of a surprise, the Diamondbacks have not kept up with their early-season momentum.

The Giants and Diamondbacks faced off in a three-game series only a couple of weeks ago. The Diamondbacks looked like the better team, as they clinched the series win. Corbin Carroll looked like an MVP candidate, blasting three home runs and leading the Diamondbacks to victory.

For the Giants, the offense has gone cold. They only scored seven runs in three games against an inferior Washington Nationals club. However, the pitching remains one of the best in baseball.

The bullpen continues to be the strength of this roster, led by Randy Rodríguez. The starting rotation has been better over the past few weeks. Overall, the pitching staff is fourth in baseball with a 3.29 ERA, and the underlying numbers support this.

The lineup does not need to be an offensive force, and I do not think many people expected that when the season began. The rotation is good enough to win a lot of close, low-scoring games. The question is, will the offense give them the three or four runs they need to secure the win?
