SF Giants Rumors: Padres in on Robbie Ray, Heliot Ramos trade market clear after Mariners, Guardians trades

The MLB trade deadline is just hours away and the SF Giants have already dealt Luis Arraez, but there are some other trade chips they should be looking to sell ahead of the 3 PM PST deadline.

Starting pitcher Robbie Ray is the most obvious trade chip remaining given he will be a free agent after the season and is a veteran who could help boost a rotation. Heliot Ramos is another potential trade chip even though he is not a pending free agent.

Let’s gather up the latest rumors on both players and figure out where they might go.

Padres interested in Ray

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the San Diego Padres have interest in Ray. This comes after he reported San Diego also entertained the idea of trading for Rafael Devers so it seems A.J. Preller is open to making a trade with San Francisco.

The Padres could definitely use some help in the starting rotation so it makes sense that they want Ray. While it would typically be rare for two division teams to trade with one another, the fact that the Giants are so bad and out of contention and Ray is a pending free agent make the chances of a deal more likely.

UPDATE: The Giants are reportedly finalizing a deal that will send Ray to the Padres according to ESPN reporter Jeff Passan.

The Arizona Diamondbacks could be another NL West team that is interested in Ray so don’t rule out a intra-division trade for Ray even though there are likely to be plenty of other suitors.

Ramos’ market now seems clear

It is starting to look like it will come down to the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies for outfielder Heliot Ramos. Other teams that were in the market for a right-handed outfield bat like the Cleveland Guardians and Seattle Mariners have already filled that need by trading for Jo Adell and Taylor Ward respectively.

That means the Phillies and Yankees are two of the last teams with a real clear need in that department which puts San Francisco in a great position if a bidding war breaks out between two teams desperate to win.

There could be plenty of other movement or players dealt in the next few hours but Ray and Ramos are the two most obvious trade chips remaining for the Giants so it will be interesting to see where they end up.
