The offseason is here which means it’s time to speculate wildly about what the SF Giants are going to do. We at Around the Foghorn do our own fair share of speculating but it’s fun to see what the other speculators out there have to offer so let’s dive into some of the chatter flying around right now about San Francisco's offseason plans.

SF Giants rumors and speculation as offseason begins

Jim Bowden thinks Giants should listen to trade offers for Logan Webb and Rafael Devers

Former MLB executive Jim Bowden, now a columnist for The Athletic recently wrote an article about the biggest need for every MLB team entering the offseason. Unsurprisingly he wrote that pitching is San Francisco’s biggest need but he also included this as well:

“I expect the Giants to listen to trade proposals for every player on their roster, including their ace Logan Webb and their best bat, Rafael Devers, because that’s the position the organization is in right now.”

This is just speculation and he’s not reporting that the Giants are listening to offers on Webb or Devers, but he makes a fair point. San Francisco should be open to pretty much anything after such a down year.

I personally do not think Webb or Devers will be traded. The front office still thinks the team can conceivably contend in 2027 and Webb and Devers would likely have to remain in the fold for the Giants to have any chance, but they should at least listen. Maybe a team blows them away with an offe,r but my gut says they will keep them both at least at the start of 2027.

The Giants at least want to try one more time to compete with this core of players but if they have a similar first few months of the season to what we saw in 2026 then I expect them to start trading away veterans and making a very obvious pivot towards rebuilding and focusing on their young core.

Could the Giants add an outfielder?

We know pitching is going to be the primary focus and I’d expect the Giants to sign at least two legitimate starters and two legitimate bullpen arms, but there’s a case to be made that they should snag an outfielder as well especially if they are going to try to contend.

MLB Trade Rumors released its predictions for its top 50 free agents on the market and one writer predicted that San Francisco would sign outfielder Taylor Ward to a one-year, $12 million deal.

This would be an interesting, and somewhat puzzling, move since Ward hit .225/.359/.311 with seven home runs and 37 runs batted in during his time with both the Baltimore Orioles and Seattle Mariners. His power seemingly disappeared after he hit 36 home runs in 2025 with the Los Angeles Angels and 25 homers the year prior to that.

They could stick Ward in left field, but he would block some of their younger options like Bo Davidson or Victor Bericoto. Maybe if they can get him on a one-year deal there’s a chance he recaptures his form from 2025 and they can either trade him or he helps power them back to the playoffs.

The Giants are caught in between trying to contend and rebuilding right now so maybe they will pick a lane in the offseason and try to fill all their holes or maybe they will try to give some of their younger players an opportunity.
