The SF Giants (32-25) take on the Miami Marlins (22-33) in the second game of a three-game series on the road. Robbie Ray will take the hill for the Giants as they look to clinch a series victory.
SF Giants probable pitchers & starting lineup vs. Miami Marlins, May 31
The Giants took the first game of the series by a score of 2-0. It continued a cold streak for an offense that has not scored more than four runs in a game since putting up nine runs against the A's on May 16.
Ray will look for his eighth win of the year. The veteran pitcher is in a five-way tie for the league lead in wins. The Giants have been excellent with Ray on the mound, only losing one of his first 11 starts this season.
The southpaw pitcher has posted a 2.56 ERA, 3.21 FIP, 1.15 WHIP, 9.8 K/9, and a 2.56 SO/W rate in 63.1 innings. He battled some command issues through his first few starts but has been tough on opposing hitters since then. Ray will mix in a mid-90's four-seam fastball with a slider and a changeup. The slider is his go-to secondary pitch, but he has shown more confidence in the changeup lately.
Who is hot for the SF Giants?
While the Giants' offense has gone cold, there have not been too many hot hitters. Heliot Ramos has been on a torrid pace in May, posting a .987 OPS with six home runs and 15 RBI in 100 plate appearances. He added a triple in Friday's 2-0 win, eventually scoring on an RBI single by Wilmer Flores.
Who are the SF Giants facing?
The Giants will be facing off against young pitcher Edward Cabrera. Cabrera has a 4.73 ERA with 43 strikeouts against 16 walks in 40 innings this year. He will tally some high strikeout totals, but he will give up a few free passes, too.
