After a brutal offensive showing on Saturday, the SF Giants (32-26) dropped the second game of a three-game series against the Miami Marlins (23-33). They will lean on young pitcher Hayden Birdsong to secure a series win on the road.

The Marlins have scored one run through the first two games against the Giants. Despite this, they have evened the series at one. The pitching has done its job, but the offensive is in the midst of a brutal cold streak. Saturday's loss marked the 13th-straight game where the Giants did not score more than four runs in a game.

Do you remember the last time the Giants scored more than four runs in a game? It was a long time ago. We were all having a good time, as Wilmer Flores had a career night at the plate with three home runs and eight RBI in a 9-1 victory against the A's. That was on May 16. Those were the good 'ol days as they say.

The Giants will lean on Hayden Birdsong to get the team back in the win column. He has a 2.48 ERA with 35 strikeouts against 12 walks in 32.2 frames this season. The 23-year-old pitcher leans on a mid 90's four-seam fastball with a slider, changeup, and curveball. The slider has seen an uptick in usage this year.

Who is hot for the SF Giants?

Matt Chapman has warmed up during this series. He has four hits, including a solo home run, in five at-bats through the first two games of the series. The Giants' lineup will need Chapman to help get the offense going.

Who are the SF Giants facing?

The Giants have struggled badly against left-handed pitching this season, and they will have an opportunity to turn that trend around with Ryan Weathers taking the hill for the Marlins. Weathers has a 1.15 ERA in three starts this year. He will mix in a mid 90's four-seam fastball with changeup and sweeper. Weathers will mix in an occasional sinker and slider as well.
