The SF Giants (21-13) squeaked by with a 6-3 win on Saturday to, at a minimum, split the four-game series against the Colorado Rockies (6-27). They will give the ball to staff ace Logan Webb to secure a series victory.
SF Giants probable pitchers & starting lineup vs. Colorado Rockies, May 4
Webb had a rough outing in his last time out against the San Diego Padres, allowing five earned runs across five innings. It did feel like nearly every pitch Padres hitters made contact with found a hole, as they recorded nine hits against the 2024 NL All-Star.
Overall, it has been a strong start to the year for Webb. He has recorded a 2.83 ERA across seven starts. His 1.75 FIP and 2.12 xFIP lead all qualified starters.
Interestingly, the veteran hurler has seen a pretty sharp increase in his strikeout rate. His pitch mix has changed, where he is favoring his sweeper more than he has in the past. Webb still throws his changeup a good amount, and both pitches are registering high whiff rates.
Who is hot for the SF Giants?
Luis Matos helped the Giants out in a big way during Saturday's 6-3 win over the Rockies. He blasted a solo shot, but also worked two walks as well. The first walk proved to be a pivotal moment in the game, as it began a five-run comeback rally for the Giants.
Who are the SF Giants facing?
The Giants are facing off against veteran pitcher Germán Márquez. Márquez had a strong 2018 campaign, but things have turned sideways since then. This season, he has tallied a 9.82 ERA with 15 strikeouts and 12 walks in 25.2 innings. The right-handed pitcher still throws a mid-90's fastball with a slider, knuckle curve, and occasional changeup. The fastball remains his primary pitch, and he will throw it more than half the time.
