UPDATE: The game is expected to resume at roughly 4:38 PM PST after a 24-minute delay.

Thursday night's game between the SF Giants and Philadelphia Phillies is in a rain delay. Rain started coming down really hard in the sixth inning and they had to stop play. The Giants are currently down 4-2. The tarp is out on the field. The hope is it will be a brief delay but we will update this article as more info comes out.

This comes a day after Wednesday night's game was postponed due to rain and a split doubleheader was scheduled for today. The Giants lost Game 1 of the doubleheader due to yet another blown save from closer Ryan Walker. They were hoping to win Game 2 of the doubleheader to avoid getting swept before going to Florida to take on the Tampa Bay Rays tomorrow.

Rain impacts SF Giants game for second straight night

This series has been a big disappointment for the Giants as there was hope that since they had been playing better baseball coming into Philadelphia they could take advantage of a Phillies team that has been struggling and just fired their manager. Instead, they have struggled.

They got blown out 7-0 in the series opener on Tuesday as the offense looked completely inept. They played well for the most part in Game 1 if the doubleheader on Thursday as ace Logan Webb looked much more like his usual self and delivered seven strong innings while allowing just one earned run.

Unfortunately, Walker blew the game and there are only going to be more questions about why he is closing games. He continues to struggle in the ninth inning so the Giants are going to have to have some discussions about who they trust to get those final three outs.

Game 2 of the doubleheader saw Adrian Houser take the mound. He gave up home runs to the first two batters of the game and it seemed like he was going to get roughed up pretty bad but he calmed down and at least made it into the fifth inning and was taken out with the game at 2-2 before Ryan Borcuki cashed in a few of his runs for the Phillies to take a 4-2 lead.

The Giants will have to come back to win which is something they have not done much of this year. They're only down two though and they know it would hurt to leave Philly without one win so they will be motivated to score some runs.

This article will be updated as we find out when play will resume.
