He has arrived.

It looked like the SF Giants were headed for yet another embarrassing loss, but then something insane happened. The Giants were down 9-1 in the eighth inning and it looked like all hope was lost. One couldn’t be blamed for turning the game off.

But then the Giants started putting hits and home runs together and the next thing you know Bryce Eldridge was at the plate with the team down three and the bases loaded.

Everyone was thinking walk-off grand slam and that’s exactly what Eldridge did as he launched a ball to the sky and it came crashing down on the green metal just beyond Levi’s Landing in right field.

Giants have a superstar in Eldridge after unthinkable comeback

It was an absolutely insane comeback and it also represents Eldridge’s true arrival. He’s been heating up as of late and quickly has become one of the most dangerous bats in the lineup, but he hasn’t had a true signature moment yet with San Francisco.

I wrote earlier today about how he hasn’t gotten a ton of love in talk about the National League Rookie of the Year but that seems like it’s going to change. Walk-off grand slams have a way of drawing national attention so it wouldn’t be surprising if national voices start to take Eldridge more seriously.

After that insane grand slam, Eldridge is now hitting .298/.385/.521 with four home runs and 12 runs batted in on the season. Those kind of stats jump off the page so if he keeps swinging a hit bat he could quickly become one of the most feared hitters in MLB.

The Giants have been dying for a superstar. Eldridge has long been touted as the big bat in the lineup that the team was desperately missing and he is truly starting to live up to that reputation at the ripe age of 21.

It wasn't all smooth sailing for Eldridge this season. He struggled at first when he was called up and wasn't starting every day. Some even thought he should be sent back down. But the Giants have to be happy they did not do that now.

In what has been an awful year Giants fans can at least look forward to Eldridge’s at-bats going forward. The dude has made it abundantly clear that he belongs in the big leagues and even if the Giants dug themselves too early a hole to dig out of the rest of the year is still worth watching to see what he can do.

It’s just another reminder that baseball is unpredictable. An insane comeback can come at any time even when it feels like a team is cooked. A superstar can be born any moment and Eldridge has not officially asserted himself as the superstar the Giants have so desperately needed.
