MLB is sleeping on SF Giants rookie Bryce Eldridge, but not for much longer

He's about to put MLB on notice.

When the SF Giants called up top prospect Bryce Eldridge last month, the hope was that he’d make an immediate impact. That did not happen and it may have had to do with the haphazard nature of his playing time early on.

Now that he’s been playing pretty much every day, the numbers have improved quite a bit. He’s hitting .300/.385/.500 with three home runs and eight runs batted in. In his last 15 games he’s hitting .392/.475/.667 so he is starting to heat up.

So far Eldridge hasn’t gotten a ton of love in talks about National League Rookie of the Year. There have been other NL rookies like St. Louis Cardinals second baseman J.J. Wetherholt, Cincinnati Reds first baseman Sal Stewart, and Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Konnor Griffin who are higher profile and have been in the big leagues for most of the season.

Eldridge got a late start on them, but if he continues his torrid pace then there’s a decent chance that he can insert his name into the conversation as the season goes on. He is already one of the best rookies in some key stats like wRC+ so it seems like every day he is climbing his way further and further up the ranks of MLB rookies.

Giants could have their first Rookie of the Year since Posey

The Giants haven’t had a Rookie of the Year winner since Buster Posey in 2010. Eldridge is widely considered the best offensive prospect the Giants have had since Posey so no matter what it seems like Eldridge is beginning to live up to the high expectations fans have had for him.

It’s obviously disappointing to see the Giants struggle as badly as they have this season, but if Eldridge goes off and fans remember the 2026 season as his coming out party that could make the team’s bad record hurt a lot less.

It’s quickly becoming a season where the Giants have to start thinking about the future. Obviously Eldridge should continue playing everyday but the Giants should also give extended looks to outfielder Jonah Cox and their young pitchers like Trevor McDonald.

Letting the kids play could at least make the second half a bit more enjoyable to watch. There isn’t a lot that’s fun to watch with a team well under .500 but Eldridge’s at-bats are already becoming must-watch TV.

If he can mount a campaign for Rookie of the Year this year that would at least give Giants fans something to root for.
