Earlier this week, the Toronto Blue Jays made one of the first big moves of the offseason, adding Dylan Cease to a seven-year, $210 million deal. On Thursday, the SF Giants made a much smaller move to add to the bullpen. Let's take a look around the rest of the division.

SF Giants NL West news: Warren Schaeffer staying, Mike Shildt's new gig, Ketel Marte trade rumors

Warren Schaeffer's interim tag removed

The Colorado Rockies have not made any notable moves to the roster yet, but the front office has been reworked. Longtime Rockies front office executive Bill Schmidt stepped down from his role as general manager. He was replaced by Paul DePodesta. Even though he went by a different name in the movie, you may recognize DePodesta as the character played by Jonah Hill in Moneyball.

While there have been changes in their front office, they will stick with Warren Schaeffer as their manager. The Rockies announced this week that they have lifted his interim tag. Early in the 2025 season, they parted ways with veteran skipper Bud Black and replaced him with Schaeffer. The Rockies went 36 - 86 with Schaffer as the interim manager.

Mike Schildt joins Baltimore Orioles' organization

Speaking of managerial changes, former San Diego Padres manager Mike Shildt has a new role for next season. According to Jake Rill of MLB.Com, he has been hired by the Baltimore Orioles to serve as a coordinator in the upper minors.

Earlier in the offseason, Schildt surprisingly announced his retirement as manager after two seasons with San Diego. He cited a desire to get away from the everyday grind of managing. The Padres put up a .565 winning percentage during his time with the club. Presumably, Schildt's new role will give him the mental break he needs while still giving back to baseball.

Ketel Marte trade rumors

According to Jon Morosi of The MLB Network, the Arizona Diamondbacks are actively listening to trade offers for Ketel Marte. He lists the Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies as teams that have checked with Arizona on his availabillity.

This would be a surprising move, but if Arizona can get a meaningful package in return, they would be wise to listen. Marte has been one of the better players in baseball over the past decade. The 2025 season was a continuation of that trend, as he posted an .893 OPS with 28 home runs and 72 RBI in 556 plate appearances.

The 31-year-old infielder just completed the first year of a six-year, $105 million extension that he signed less than 12 months ago. That is a bargain deal for a player of Marte's caliber.
