It’s been an exciting couple of days for the SF Giants which is a sentence that fans haven’t really been able to say much this season. They won in amazing walk-off fashion on Wednesday and then didn’t play on Thursday which was great because it meant they couldn’t lose and it gave everyone a chance to properly digest Bryce Eldridge’s grand slam.
It was easy to miss a couple of news nuggets as well as a wild thing broadcaster Mike Krukow said right before Eldridge’s slam that I actually missed upon first watch.
Krukow’s wild call
When the Giants were down big on Wednesday, Duane Kuiper and Mike Krukow joked about going “Tarps Off” or basically taking their shirts off based off a recent MLB craze amongst fans if the team came back to win.
Krukow took things a step further when Eldridge came up to the plate with a chance to hit a walk-off grand slam.
Kuiper: “It may be more than 'tarps off' if Eldridge knocks one out of here."
Krukow: "I'm gonna hold you to it. Time to drop trou, hog out."

Krukow’s ability to craft a unique turn of phrase may simply be unmatched and even though that one is a bit crude, it will now be forever enshrined in Giants lore. Heck, Wednesday’s game may go down as the “Drop trou, hog out,” game in our collective memories and it is yet another example of why Kruk and Kuip are the absolute best to do it.
Carson Seymour sent down
The Giants called up Carson Seymour just about a week ago so they could have a fresher arm in the bullpen to give them some length. After two disappointing outings he now finds himself back down in Triple-A according to the team's transaction log. Ryan Walker was called up from Triple-A.
Seymour gave up seven earned runs total in two outings and the Giants were actually able to overcome his bad showing on Wednesday which makes it all the more impressive.
Seymour was dealing in Triple-A as a starter so maybe going back down will help him if he gets back into his comfort zone. This almost certainly won’t be the last we see of him this season especially if the Giants trade away a few of their starters at the trade deadline.
Jerar Encarnacion heads to Japan
The Giants began this season with right-handed slugger Jerar Encarnacion on the bench but it quickly became clear that he was not a great fit for the roster and wasn’t getting a ton of playing time.
He made several embarrassing gaffes and just didn’t hit all that well as he slashed .176/.200/.206 in 17 games.
Encarnacion has now signed with the Yokohama DeNA BayStars of the NPB. Maybe he can recapture the impressive form he had in the Mexican League a few years ago which prompted the Giants to take a chance on him.
The Giants begin a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs on Friday night and there’s a greater-than-zero chance that some drunk fans take inspiration from Krukow’s call on Wednesday. Be prepared to guard your eyes.
