As the SF Giants cycle through bullpen options in search of answers, Trent Harris has put his name in the conversation. Plus, Leandro Rodriguez has strung together a nice season in the Arizona Complex League (ACL).
SF Giants minor league notes: Trent Harris rebound, Leandro Rodriguez quietly solid summer
1. Trent Harris rebound
A couple of years ago, Trent Harris breezed through the lower minors. He continued to pitch well in his brief time at Double-A but has mostly struggled during his stint in the Pacific Coast League (PCL). That is not too surprising. The PCL is often a tough environment for pitchers, so he is not the first one to struggle in that league, nor will he be the last.
With the Sacramento River Cats in 2026, Harris has pitched to a 3.96 ERA, 4.73 FIP, 1.56 WHIP, 10.4 K/9, and a 2.23 SO/W rate across 25 innings. Since May 1, he has posted a 1.96 ERA with 21 strikeouts and eight walks across 18.1 innings.
On the mound, the right-handed pitcher features a low 90's cutter with a pair of distinct breaking balls. This includes an upper 70's curveball and a mid 80's slider. The curveball has generated a 35.1 percent whiff rate and gets a fair bit of swings outside of the zone. The slider has not been nearly as effective this year, but it has shown some promise in the past.
Harris is eligible for the Rule 5 draft in the winter. If the front office knows that they plan to protect him, they might call him up before the end of the season. He will likely be one of the next non-roster pitchers to get a promotion if he continues pitching at this pace.
2. Leandro Rodriguez's quietly solid summer in Arizona
Leandro Rodriguez has been a pleasant surprise in the ACL. He has pitched to a 4.89 ERA, 4.69 FIP, 1.14 WHIP, 11.6 K/9, and a 4.50 SO/W rate across 35 frames. While the ERA appears high, it is easy to forget that the average ERA in the ACL is 6.13 at the moment. He is doing well in the things that he can control.
A healthy SO/W rate and a good fastball are usually good predictors of success at the next level, and the left-handed pitcher is showing that. He has a mid 90's fastball with a mid 80's changeup. He has a slider as well, but he does not throw it as frequently.
The Giants signed Rodriguez during the 2025 international signing period out of Venezuela. He earned a $10,000 signing bonus. Rodriguez had a strong pro debut, pitching to a 2.41 ERA in 41 innings in the Dominican Summer League last season.
