The Hall of Fame election results were announced on Tuesday and only two players, Carlos Beltran and Andruw Jones, will be enshrined in Cooperstown. SF Giants legend Hunter Pence was on the ballot for the first time and received two votes which was not enough to keep him on the ballot going forward.

It is not all that surprising a result as Pence's case for the Hall of Fame was always an unconventional one. He had a great career no doubt that has gotten him into the Hall of Pretty Good, but his numbers were not quite there for enshrinement in Cooperstown.

Pence was not the only name familiar to Giants fans who dropped off the ballot. Former Dodger Matt Kemp received two votes as well and former Royal Alex Gordon, who have Giants fans a fright with his soft liner in Game 7 of the 2014 World Series, received one vote.

Another interesting name who did not make it was Ryan Braun who was busted for PED use during his playing days. So, sign stealing is good but PED's are bad. Got it.

The whole Hall of Fame has lost legitimacy in the eyes of a lot of fans given the fact they have been so hypocritical when it comes to who makes it into Cooperstown and who does not. There are double standards and guys who almost definitely used PED's during their playing days are in the Hall so the whole thing is a little bit of a sham at this point.

However, the Giants have their own Walk of Fame and have made sure to honor great players for their career even if they have not been recognized by the Hall. Both Barry Bonds and Will Clark have had their numbers retired and are seen as royalty in San Francisco and that may arguably be more meaningful than whatever some stuffy baseball writers have to say about the matter.

It was cool that Pence was even included among the names eligible for the Hall of Fame. It is easy to forget how good of a hitter he really was in his prime. Sure, he never put up MVP numbers but he was a four-time All-Star and was extremely solid until injuries derailed things a bit later in his career.

No matter what, Pence had a heck of a career and he will never be forgotten in the city of San Francisco for the role he played in delivering two rings to the city as one of the most beloved Giants ever.
