SF Giants legend Barry Bonds finally gets (some of) the Hall of Fame love he deserves

At least someone finally did.

SF Giants legend Barry Bonds is finally getting the Hall of Fame recognition he deserves, but sadly it is not from the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. Instead, Bonds is going to be inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame.

It may be a small consolation, but at least some sort of Hall of Fame is recognizing Bonds for his career achievements. He will be part of the 2026 class alongside another Giants legend Buster Posey and former Giant Marquis Grissom.

Bonds played his college ball at Arizona State University. Unsurprisingly he put up some great numbers, hitting .347 with 45 home runs and 175 runs batted in as a Sun Devil.

Also unsurprisingly, Bonds was not exactly beloved by his teammates at ASU. The same traits that he took with him to the big leagues certainly applied to his collegiate career as well so he rubbed some people the wrong way then as well.

It is pretty funny that college baseball is willing to recognize Bonds for his greatness while Cooperstown is not. Obviously, Bonds’ collegiate career was not tainted by the legacy of steroids so there’s less of a reason to keep him out.

Bonds' place in Cooperstown should be assured but it is not

At this point, it seems like the National Baseball Hall of Fame is just never going to admit Bonds. Maybe they will a long time from now when all of the baseball writers Bonds was ever rude to have passed away and a new generation simply judges him based on his numbers while also acknowledging the era in which he played.

The fact that there are currently players enshrined in Cooperstown who almost assuredly took steroids or some form of PEDs is what makes the entire institution look like a joke. Many current and former players believe Bonds belongs in the National Baseball Hall of Fame so at some point, someday, he should be inducted even if it is decades from now.

At least it seems like there’s a decent chance the Giants will have several National Baseball Hall of Fame inductees next year. Buster Posey should make it as a player and both Bruce Bochy and Dusty Baker should make it in as managers.

Bonds is one of the greatest baseball players to ever live. While Cooperstown refuses to recognize that fact at least the College Baseball Hall of Fame is brave enough to give Bonds his due credit.
