The injury bug has finally come to San Francisco as the SF Giants are having to deal with injuries to some of their most valuable players. Matt Chapman and Patrick Bailey are now on the IL and Justin Verlander is trying to come back.
SF Giants injury updates: Chapman, Bailey, Verlander
Chapman's hand
The Giants got some rough news when it was revealed that third baseman Matt Chapman was going to have to go on the 10-day IL after he jammed his hand diving back into first base on a pick off attempt. Unfortunately, he is going to miss even more time than that.
Matt Chapman tells me and @mi_guardado that he will miss more than 10 games with sprained right hand. He had an MRI yesterday that showed sprained ligaments. He hopes to be back before the end of the first half. Extra stinks because he was swinging the bat so well.

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reported on social media that Chapman sprained ligaments in his right hand but he still hopes to be back before the end of the first half.
Chapman is such a huge part of the team on both offense and defense so it is really unfortunate that he is going to miss time especially as the Giants are about to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers for the first time this season. San Francisco will need Casey Schmitt to step up in his place.
Patrick Bailey's neck
The Giants will also be without their other Gold Glover Patrick Bailey for some time as he deals with a neck strain. He was put on the 10-day IL for now and one hopes that is all the time he will have to miss.
Bailey will mainly be missed for his superb defense behind the plate even though he has not done much at all with the bat this season. Andrew Knizner and Logan Porter are going to have to hold down the fort while Bailey is on the mend.
Verlander inches towards return
Justin Verlander has been on the IL for nearly a month as he deals with a pectoral issue. Kyle Harrison has filled in nicely but it seems as if Verlander is inching towards a return as he was scheduled to throw a live bullpen in Colorado on Wednesday.
The Giants obviously want to be cautious with the 42-year-old, but they may be okay with their current contingent of young arms in the rotation. If they feel comfortable with their young rotation, they could even try to trade Verlander.
The injuries are piling up for the Giants a bit right now which is unfortunate because they have been relatively fortunate when it comes to injuries this year. Let's hope they can get all three of these players back as soon as possible.
