It is better to be safe than sorry.

The SF Giants got some injury updates on Tuesday with reliever Randy Rodríguez and starting pitcher Landen Roupp. At this point, the Giants would probably be best served by shutting both players down, along with Jerar Encarnacion, the rest of the season.

Rodríguez landed on the IL with an elbow injury. He had been struggling as of late and did not appear to close the door on Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers as Ryan Walker got the chance at the save instead.

SF Giants should shut several players down after latest injury updates

At this point, the Giants should probably just shut Rodríguez down. He has been struggling and if his arm is sore they should not push him or rush him back. They are going to need him as he figures to be an integral part of their bullpen going forward so there is no point having him pitch in late September in meaningless games.

The same can be said about Roupp. He had a scary knee injury on the mound against the San Diego Padres. Thankfully, what was initially feared to be a torn ACL ended up only being a bone bruise. He will be out four weeks but he should be shut down because the Giants are going to need him healthy and in the rotation next season.

Encarnacion is a player who has seemingly been cursed by injuries all season long. From a broken hand to his oblique and, most recently, his hamstring, he just has not been able to catch a break. He is estimated to come back in late September, but with how prone to injury he has been this season the Giants would be better served to just shut him down.

Luis Matos looks like he will get the lion's share of work in right field for the rest of this season if his bat stays hot, so there is no point in trying to get Encarnacion back out on the field.

It is unfortunate that the Giants have lost all three of these players due to injury as they have all shown lots of promise this season. But in a lost season, there is no point in risking any of them further injuring themselves as the team looks ahead to the 2026 season for which we already have a schedule.
