SF Giants have gone from buyers to potential sellers in the blink of an eye

After the All-Star break, it seemed like the SF Giants were all in on trying to make the playoffs this season. They have yet to win a game in the second half which now makes them a potential seller rather than a buyer at the trade deadline.

When the Giants made their blockbuster trade for Rafael Devers back in June, they were playing good baseball and were not far behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West standings. Now, the Giants find themselves 6.5 games back of LA in the NL West and 3.5 games back of a Wild Card spot.

SF Giants may soon be sellers if losing continues

This is not what anyone wanted to see coming out of the All-Star break. Instead of looking rested, focused, and rejuvenated, the team looks sloppy and lethargic. Their offense is woeful and their pitching has been abysmal.

As of right now, this does not look like a playoff team. The Giants have been so volatile this year, at times looking like a legit playoff team while at others looking completely hopeless and just as mediocre and forgettable as the .500 teams of the last three seasons.

The way they are playing is not likely to inspire president of baseball operations Buster Posey and the front office to go out and make a big splash before the trade deadline. If things continue on their current trajectory, the Giants may even be sellers.

Several bullpen arms would be incredibly attractive to other teams out there, especially contenders in need of bullpen help. Selling would have seemed absurd just a few weeks ago, but it now seems like a distinct possibility.

While it feels like a free fall is inevitable when a team is in the midst of a losing streak, the Giants could still turn things around. They have a lot of solid players on their team who are just underperforming right now. All it takes is one big win or one series to shift the momentum and then the next thing you know after a strong week they could be right back in the thick of the playoff conversation.

It is not easy to be optimistic about this team right now. The front office must be wondering what they are going to do at the deadline because this team does not look like a contender right now. But if they can get back on track maybe the front office, and the fanbase, will start to believe in this team again.
