Seems like the team is set.

After the SF Giants signed starting pitcher Tyler Mahle, it seemed like they were probably done making additions to the rotation. General manager Zack Minasian essentially confirmed that to reporters on Monday.

According to Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area, Minasian said the Giants are "very comfortable" with the five starters they have and feel confident in the young depth behind those starting five.

SF Giants likely done making rotation additions

Another Giants insider, Andrew Baggarly, recently speculated that Max Scherzer would still make sense for the Giants given his ties to manager Tony Vitello, but the Giants seem to want their young pitchers to serve as depth and get chances to start if any of their first five get injured so that likely means the Giants will not add Scherzer.

The team has also been tied to Miami Marlins starter Edward Cabrera, so maybe they would make a trade if it meant sending someone like Robbie Ray or Landen Roupp to Miami in exchange for him.

But that seems like a fairly unlikely outcome. It seems like the Giants are going to roll with a rotation of Logan Webb, Robbie Ray, Landen Roupp, Adrian Houser, and Tyler Mahle. It is not the most exciting bunch, but the Giants clearly did not want to spend a lot on pitching this offseason and they succeeded in that effort.

Maybe this rotation will end up being really solid, but outside of Webb there are lots of question marks. Ray was an All-Star and had a dominant first half in 2025 but he struggled with inconsistency in the second half. Roupp looked really good until he got hurt and dealt with some elbow issues in his throwing arm which is always a concern. Houser and Mahle both had solid seasons but neither has been a reliable work horse in their careers.

Perhaps banking on the likes of Hayden Birdsong, Carson Whisenhunt, and Trevor McDonald to fill in the gaps makes sense, but the Giants are making one heck of a bet that they are going to squeeze every single ounce of production out of the pitching staff.

There are just so many question marks surrounding the staff that it is tough to see the vision the front office has for success. Again, maybe it works but if it does not the front office is going to hear it from fans who are desperate to see this team make it back to the playoffs.
