SF Giants farm system skyrockets to one of the top spots in Baseball America’s latest ranking

How much has the SF Giants farm system improved over the past year? On Wednesday, Baseball America released its updated rankings, with the Giants coming in at No. 4.

It is the club’s highest ranking since the moon landing. Feel free to double check my math on that one.

While the major league club has left a lot to be desired, the minor league affiliates have been competitive and entertaining.

Their Low-A, High-A, and Double-A affiliates have already punched tickets to the playoffs after securing first-half titles in their respective leagues. In particular, the High-A affiliate, the Eugene Emeralds, will head straight to the Championship Series next month due to the small size of the Northwest League.

On the other hand, the Sacramento River Cats have the best record in the Pacific Coast League, with a 65-48 record. They have talented rosters up and down the farm system, but it is a nice reflection of that for a major outlet to recognize it as well.

The strength of the farm system is in middle infielders. Josuar Gonzalez, Luis Hernández, and Jhonny Level lead that crop. They added another high-profile middle infielder in a trade with the San Diego Padres.

The Giants hope that Flora can move quickly through the farm system, given that he was drafted out of college. The development path could be a little longer for the rest of the group.

The Giants’ farm system is light on outfielders, and especially light on catchers. That said, Bo Davison continues to be regarded as one of the better outfield prospects in baseball and one of the best undrafted success stories in recent memory. Of course, there is another undrafted free agent who is making a strong case for a promotion before the end of the year.

The major league club has not been all that fun to watch You see it. I see it. We all see it. However, there are plenty of Giants affiliates to support before the end of the season.
