The SF Giants have been trying for years to improve their farm system. It seems they are finally making some inroads as their farm system is now ranked as being in the middle of the pack which is an improvement.
Keith Law of The Athletic recently ranked all 30 farm systems and he placed the Giants in Tier 4 out of 8 tiers. He ranks them 13th overall which is far better than the 26th place ranking he gave them last year.
SF Giants farm system improves drastically in latest rankings
Here is an excerpt of what Law wrote on San Francisco's current farm system:
"The Giants have a couple of top-end prospects with high ceilings and good probability — Josuar Gonzalez could easily be in the top 3 by August...Their 2025 deadline trades already look great in hindsight — and trading relievers for prospects is nearly always the right strategy."
He is a fan of the team's deadline trades and complimented the system's current depth. The farm system definitely seems to be trending in the right direction and national baseball types are clearly taking notice.
The Giants landing Josuar Gonzalez last year and Luis Hernandez this year has given a big boost to the system and has given the Giants a lot of exciting young shortstops in the organization.
Obviously, Bryce Eldridge is the crown jewel of the system thus far and 2026 could potentially be his big breakout year. He had a brief stint with the Giants at the end of 2025 and while his numbers were not great, he clearly has a lot of power and a ton of upside.
In a different ranking of prospects, Law also gave some love to 2025 first-round pick Gavin Kilen and commended his high floor.
Obviously, a promising farm system does not always equate to a pipeline of big league contributors. The Giants have seen guys like Joey Bart and Marco Luciano flame out after being highly touted so rankings do not really mean much at the end of the day.
Still, the Giants have acquired guys who should be able to make an impact at the big league level sooner. Guys like Kilen and Drew Gilbert have good bat-to-ball skills which is what president of baseball operations Buster Posey has tried to emphasize.
They are trending in the right direction, now the trick is being able to get solid contributions from these guys in the majors.
