The SF Giants hold the No. 4 pick in the upcoming draft. In MLB Pipeline's latest mock draft, they have the Giants selecting Jackson Flora out of UC Santa Barbara.

The Giants will see a sizable bump in their bonus pool to just over $14 million in this year's draft. This is because luck favored them, as they beat the odds by landing the No. 4 pick after an 81-win season.

While the Giants will hold a top pick in the first round, the draft order will revert back to the order based on reverse standings after that round. This means that the Giants will pick in the middle of the later rounds.

The Giants will also have all their picks for the first time since 2023. They forefeited a pair of picks in the 2024 and 2025 drafts due to a combination of crossing the luxury tax in 2024 and signing players who had rejected a qualifying offer from their previous team.

The Giants have not had much success in the draft in recent years, but it is fair to say that the No. 4 pick will be one of the most important in franchise history. This is compounded by the fact that they are building a lot of talent in the lower minors. This could be the pick that helps tie everything together.

The latest mock draft has the Giants selecting Jackson Flora. Jonathan Mayo of MLB Pipeline believes he is the top college arm in the draft:

"He’s [Flora] definitely jumped to the top of the college pitching list. Maybe No. 4 is a tiny bit too high, but he’s posting every week. The stuff is very real...There is ceiling there potentially, so this is a good spot for him."

There might be some risk in going with a pitcher with that pick. This is due to the number of talented position players that are expected to be available when the Giants draft in the first round.

Baseball teams never really draft for need, but pitching is a need in the Giants' farm system. They have some intriguing young arms, headlined by Jacob Bresnahan, but they are more projectible than a top college arm in the draft. This is not to say that the Giants should draft Flora, but that pitching is not a strength of the farm system.

The right-handed pitcher is off to an incredible start. He has posted a 0.69 ERA with 65 strikeouts and 15 walks in 52.1 frames for UC Santa Barbara.
