The MLB draft is still a few months away, but teams now have clarity on how much they will have available to spend on signing bonuses. For the SF Giants, they will see a notable bump to just over $14 million in 2026.
SF Giants sees notable bump in bonus ahead of 2026 MLB draft
Jim Callis of MLB Pipeline confirmed that slot values will increase by 2.5 percent in this year’s draft. Last year, the Giants had a bonus pool of $8.4 million, but they also did not have a second-and-fifth-round pick.Â
Luck was in the Giants’ favor this year, as they landed the No. 4 overall pick. The odds had them picking in the middle of the first round after finishing last season with an 81-81 record, but the lottery moved them up quite a bit.Â
The No. 4 pick had a slot value of $8.7 million in 2025, but that should increase to over $8.9 million this year. That said, the officially slot values by pick have not been made public yet. That pick should account for over 60 percent of the Giants’ total slot value.
While they hold the No. 4 pick, their draft position will revert back to reversed standings after the first round. This is to say, they will not hold the No. 4 pick in every round.Â
That pick will be the highest pick the Giants have had since the 2018 draft, when they selected Joey Bart with the No. 2 pick. Of course, the Giants had to lose 98 games in 2017 to get that pick.Â
The Giants have not had much success in the first round in recent years. In fact, Heliot Ramos (2017) and Patrick Bailey (2020) are the only first-round picks currently on the roster. They hope that Bryce Eldridge (2023) rejoins that group soon enough.
It is not hyperbole to say that this might be one of the biggest draft picks in Giants history. The Giants have stuck with scouting director Michael Holmes to run the draft. He does not have much to show during his seven seasons in charge of the draft, with many of the team’s top picks failing to reach the upper minors.
This will also be the first draft since 2023 that the Giants will hold all of their picks. They forfeited a pair of top picks in 2024 and 2025 due to a combination of signing players who rejected qualifying offers and crossing the luxury tax in 2024.Â
