SF Giants fans all too familiar with the pro-Dodgers bias of FOX broadcaster
Giants fans have known about this for a while.
The SF Giants did not make the playoffs this season. Instead, two of their rivals are currently squaring off in the NLDS. The San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers will play Game 3 of their best of 5 series tonight in San Diego. Right now each team has won one game each so Game 3 could go a long way towards determining the winner of the series.
Giants fans are obviously cheering for the Padres to take down the Dodgers. San Diego beat the Dodgers in the playoffs back in 2022 and they are attempting to repeat this feat even though the Dodgers now have Shohei Ohtani on their team.
Padres fans have been vocal about how they feel the announcing crew has been biased in favor of the Dodgers for the series, and it is easy to understand why. FOX’s play-by-play announcer Joe Davis is the regular play-by-play man for the Dodgers which definitely creates at least a small conflict of interest.
SF Giants know all about the pro-Dodgers bias of announcer Joe Davis
Davis usually tries to play it down the middle for national broadcasts, but some fans felt that his call of Ohtani’s three-run homer in Game 1 of the series had at least some traces of homerism to it.
Earlier this season when Davis called a nationally broadcast game between the Giants and Dodgers there definitely seemed to be some moments where Davis got more excited when things went well for the Dodgers.
There will always be those who criticize announcers no matter what. Especially if their team is the one that is losing. But having Davis call Dodgers games on a national broadcast definitely feels biased. If he gets to call games on television then the Giants should get to have Mike Krukow and Duane Kuiper call games the next time the Giants reach the postseason.
We will see if Davis is able to keep it pretty balanced for the rest of this series. However, if the Dodgers are able to advance to the NLCS and (please no) the World Series, FOX has the call for both of those series which means we may get more pro-Dodgers bias from the announcing crew for the rest of the playoffs.
