The SF Giants are not the only team enjoying the addition of Rafael Devers. Their Double-A affiliate, the Richmond Flying Squirrels, posted a hilarious message to opposing fans saying that they cannot give out free baseballs because they just added a lucrative contract in Devers.

Colin Beazly of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette captured on image of the post that hung in the Flying Squirrels' bullpen and reads:

"We cannot give you a ball. We just traded for [Rafael] Devers and he costs a lot of money. Foul balls, yes, we can hook you up. It's better to be seen - not heard. Be cool and we will be cool back."
Bullpen

The bullpen has a point. Devers' contract is expensive, as he just signed a 10-year, $313.5 million extension right before the 2024 season.

The Giants absorbed the remainder of that deal while offsetting it to some degree by including Jordan Hicks in the trade. Hicks was in the second year of his four-year, $44 million deal. Devers will be on the books through the 2033 season.

It is good to see teams have fun with this and minor league baseball is such a fun and energetic environment. I have been in Salt Lake City all week, getting a chance to see the Sacramento River Cats play the Salt Lake Bees in person. The River Cats are in the middle of the pack, whereas the Bees have the worst record in the league at 27-44. Despite this, the vibes are great and there are plenty of things to do once you are inside of the stadium. This is to say that minor league baseball is alive and well.

On the other hand, it has not ben smooth sailing for the Flying Squirrels, as they sit in last place in the Eastern League with an 18-45 record. Bryce Eldridge began the season with Richmond but was promoted earlier this month along with Trent Harris.

The move has left Richmond thin on talent, especially in the lineup. Diego Velasquez continues to hit well, even if he does not add much power. The starting rotation has been surprisingly solid, but they are not getting much run support. At least, the bullpen is finding ways to have fun and using the Rafael Devers trade as a reason to joke with opposing fans
