The SF Giants have two Gold Glove winners this season as pitcher Logan Webb and catcher Patrick Bailey both took home some hardware. Next year, that number could double if some infielders have a better showing.
Webb and Bailey are both clearly deserving of these awards. Bailey has established himself as probably the finest defensive catcher in the game with his ability to frame pitchers and throw runners out on the base paths. Webb has similarly proven that he is great at getting off the bump and fielding his position.
SF Giants could have more Gold Glove winners in 2026
This is the second straight season that the Giants have two Gold Glove winners as it came as no huge shock when third baseman Matt Chapman and Bailey took home the awards in 2024.
Chapman was not even nominated for the Gold Glove this season which came as a bit of a surprise although he did miss some time due to injury and complained about the hardness of Oracle Park's infield dirt.
Going into 2026, it would not come as a huge shock if the Giants had four Gold Glove finalists in the infield. If Bailey and Webb can earn nominations yet again and if Chapman can have a bit of a bounce back year defensively, do not be surprised if shortstop Willy Adames can join that trio to make for four Gold Glove finalists in 2026.
Adames struggled mightily on defense early in 2025. He was cold at the plate too as it seemed like he was simply pressing too hard trying to make a good impression with his new team after signing a lucrative contract in the offseason.
As the season went on though, he clearly got more comfortable both at the plate and in the field. By the end of the season he was in the top ten among MLB shortstops in the Outs Above Average category. It stands to reason that if he can get off to a stronger start in the field in 2026, he could certainly be one of the finalists next year.
If the Giants did have four Gold Glove finalists, it would probably mean good things for their defense overall which ranked near the bottom in MLB in fielding percentage. That is obviously an imperfect measure of a team's defense given the fact that errors are somewhat subjective, but no one would argue that the 2025 Giants were a defensively sound team.
Pitching and defense is at the forefront of what the Giants want their strengths to be, so if they could double their number of Gold Glove finalists, and perhaps even winners, next season they should be in a much better spot.
