With MLB rosters expanding from 26 to 28 players in September, the SF Giants decided to call up Grant McCray and J.T. Brubaker. This is a snub of top prospect Bryce Eldridge who has been doing everything he can to get called up.

The decision to not promote Eldridge does not come as a huge shock since president of baseball operations threw cold water on the idea of a promotion for Eldridge recently. Still, that will not quiet those who want to see the kids play and are craving a taste of what Eldridge can do at the big league level.

SF Giants do not call up Bryce Eldridge as rosters expand

Eldridge has put up solid numbers in the minors this season. Across three levels he is slashing .257/.331/.512 with 23 home runs and 75 runs driven in. 16 of those homers have come in Triple-A with the Sacramento River Cats.

His power has been incredibly impressive, but it seems the Giants do not want to rush the 20-year-old up to the big leagues too quickly. He carries such high expectations being the team's top prospect and having such an appealing offensive profile that it is probably best to be patient with the tall lefty slugger.

Plus, with San Francisco's recent play as of late that has inserted themselves back into having some sort of long shot hope for the playoffs, the Giants may believe they need to field their best team for the rest of the year to try and make a playoff push.

One could argue that Eldridge gives the team a better chance to win, but adding him to the roster would mean that the Giants would have four guys on the roster who are basically limited to just first base or designated hitter in Eldridge, Rafael Devers, Wilmer Flores, and Dom Smith. Flores is someone they could move on from to make room for Eldridge, but the Giants probably want to be respectful of the fan favorite after all he has done for the Giants.

Eldridge still has thinks to work on like his high strikeout rate and his defense at first base. He is far from a finished project, but that will not change the fact that it would be very intriguing to see what he could do with the Giants in the month of September. There is also an argument to be made that by getting his debut out of the way now that would mean less pressure on him for next year.

He got snubbed with these uninspiring call-ups, but maybe he can still earn a promotion in the next few weeks. If not, we will have to wait until 2026 for his MLB debut.
