The All-Star Game rosters were announced on Saturday and the SF Giants have two players headed to Philadelphia. Second baseman Luis Arraez gets his fourth All-Star nod after a great season both offensively and defensively and Logan Webb gets his third straight All-Star nod thanks to a dominant month of June.
While the Giants probably don’t deserve too many All-Star representatives given the way this season has gone, there were two clear and obvious snubs with the initial selections.
Casey Schmitt has been great this year. He’s having the best offensive season of his career, hitting .283/.307/.491 with 16 home runs and 44 runs batted in.Â
Not only that but he’s played all over the diamond defensively as the Giants have had to get creative to keep his bat in the lineup. That probably hurt his All-Star chances since he hasn’t had a set position but Ken Rosenthal predicted Schmitt would make the team as a third baseman.
Given the way Schmitt has looked the last few days at third base with Matt Chapman on the IL, making an insane web gem on Friday and then following it up with another on Saturday, he would have been fun to watch at third base in the All-Star Game. Instead, Max Muncy of the Los Angeles Dodgers will be the starting third baseman for the National League.

Jung Hoo Lee is another snub. He’s having his best big league season as well and is hitting .317/.348/.452 with five homers and 33 runs batted in. He’s also made some really impressive defensive plays that one would think would’ve caught the attention of those deciding who makes it to the All-Star Game but maybe he just faced too stiff of competition with Brandon Marsh, Juan Soto, and Andy Pages as the starters.
Schmitt and Lee could make ASG as alternates potentially
Of course, both players could end up being alternates if a player gets injured or is not able to participate. It wouldn't be a surprise if at least one of them ends up heading to Philadelphia in a week and a half.
The bigger question may be what the Giants decide to do with both players ahead of the August 3 trade deadline. It would be surprising if either player was traded, especially Lee since he has become such a fan-favorite, but all options have to be on the table for San Francisco with how bad this season has gone.
