SF Giants ace reveals he's already cleaned up major hole in his game before 2026

SF Giants ace Logan Webb just won his first Gold Glove for his efforts on defense in the 2025 season. He revealed on a recent podcast that fixing a major hole in his game had a big reason to do with him taking home the hardware.

Webb appeared on the Splash Hit Territory podcast and talked about how he got better at holding runners at first base in 2025. This was something that Webb struggled with a lot in prior seasons.

In particular, Webb mentioned a game against the St. Louis Cardinals in 2024 in which a lot of runners were able to steal off of him. He said after that game he realized he was doing some things that were tipping off to the other team that he was going to go to home plate with a pitch.

He said he had one tell in particular that he picked up from his former teammate Kevin Gausman in which he would tap his leg before he pitched and apparently he became to predictable with it.

"Probably watched [Gausman] and started doing it. And I realized at that point that I was tipping a little bit, guys would know when I was going home."

Webb credited the coaching staff with helping him work on his timing a little bit and he said in spring training he was able to vary things better to the point where no one tried to steal a base off of him in the Cactus League.

That good work continued into the regular season as he earned his second straight All-Star appearance and even led the National League in strikeouts and innings pitched. He was able to change the narrative that he is exclusively a ground ball pitcher which is an impressive thing to do at this point in his career.

The fact that both Webb and catcher Patrick Bailey won Gold Gloves is really impressive as they are the first batterymates to take home Gold gloves in the same season since 2013.

With Webb improving at holding runners on base and Bailey behind the dish with one of the fastest pop times in baseball, opponents will have a hard time trying to steal against the Giants especially when Webb is on the mound and Bailey is behind the plate.

It is great to see that Webb, even though he has been so solid for so long, is still not satisfied and is always trying to improve each season.
