SF Giants ace Logan Webb was recently named a top 10 pitcher in MLB by MLB Network. Giants fans know that the right-handed sinker baller is a great pitcher, but it is nice to see that he is getting a little more recognition from national media outlets.

MLB released their ranking of the top 10 pitchers in all of major league baseball, and Webb came in at number nine. Some other names on the list that will interest Giants fans are 2024 Giant and current Dodger Blake Snell at number five, rumored Giants free agent target Corbin Burnes at number six, and former prospect in the Giants organization Zach Wheeler who is ranked number one.

Webb slipped one spot in the rankings since last year when he was ranked eighth going into the 2024 season. For what it is worth, the newest member of the Giants Justin Verlander was ranked fourth going into last season which shows that he is not far removed from being considered one of the best pitchers in the game.

These are just rankings after all and are not set in stone, but Webb has the pedigree to be considered a top-10 pitcher in baseball. He has been remarkably consistent for the Giants each of the past three seasons with a combined 3.22 ERA in 613 innings pitched across the past three seasons.

He provides so much value with the fact that he pitches deep into games so often and has become an absolute workhorse, leading all of MLB in innings pitched each of the last two seasons. Sometimes people tend to undervalue Webb because he is not a guy who records an insane number of strikeouts and instead excels at putting the ball on the ground. But that is an art in and of itself and does not deserve to be held against him.

If Webb can deliver another solid season in 2025, perhaps he could win his first Cy Young Award. It would be the first time a Giants pitcher won the award since 2009 when Tim Lincecum did it. It seems with each year Webb is getting more respect as a starter. If he can win 15 or more games, throw over 200 innings, and have an ERA under 3.00 then he should be in the running. At the very least he is being recognized as one of the elite pitchers in the game.
