On Monday, the SF Giants clubbed five home runs in an 11-5 victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Oracle Park was unusually lively during a night game, and Monday's game represented the first time the Giants hit five home runs at home since 2021.
SF Giants accomplish a feat at home that they have not done since 2021 season
Matt Chapman, Heliot Ramos, Patrick Bailey, Dominic Smith, and Jung Hoo Lee each recorded one home run apiece. Three of those home runs came off of former Giants pitcher Anthony DeSclafani. He took one for the team, as he was left in there to preserve the rest of Arizona's bullpen.
Monday's win was the first time the Giants' lineup hit five home runs in a game all season. Since the start of 2021, they have had 12 instances of hitting five home runs in a game. Nine of those games have taken place on the road.
Before last night's game, the last time the Giants hit five home runs in a game at home was on July 31, 2021. They might have been unusually excited, as the front office acquired Kris Bryant in the minutes leading up to the trade deadline. Also, that Giants team blasted 241 home runs on the way to winning 107 games, so that is usually a good team to be associated with.
A lot of familiar faces helped propel the Giants to an 8-6 victory against the Houston Astros on that day. Donovan Solano, Darin Ruf, LaMonte Wade Jr., Wilmer Flores, and Mike Yastrzemski all tallied a home run in that win. Flores is the only player still with the club, but Yastrzemski and Wade Jr. played for the Giants earlier in the year.
It has been over four years since that game. The Giants have been hitting a lot of home runs lately. They recently put together a stretch of 18 consecutive games with a home run. In the past 21 games, they have hit 43 home runs and only allowed 17 home runs. That is a good recipe for success.
The Giants will need that trend to continue, as they are still looking up in the Wild Card standings. The New York Mets currently hold a three-game lead over the Giants for the final Wild Card spot, but they have been slumping lately and have a tough schedule to finish out the year. It should be noted that the Mets hold the tiebreaker over the Giants, so the Giants will need to surpass them by one game.
