Brett Wisely's run with the SF Giants is likely done after he was designated for assignment on Monday. The utility bat had about as cool a moment as a player can have on the baseball field. That is hitting a walk-off home run, especially against a division rival.

It was not too surprising that Wisely's time was nearing an end. He has exhausted all three option years and would need to make the club next spring to avoid going through waivers.

Having no options forces teams to make a decision on a player. The Giants have that coming up with Marco Luciano, Luis Matos, and Jerar Encarnación.

Wisely is in a similar boat as Luciano, Matos, and Encarnación. After using up three option years, none of the four have carved out a role with the team.

The Giants could look to give Luciano, Matos, and Encarnación another look next spring. If any of them perform well in the Cactus League, then they could stick for as long as their performance warrants. For those who do not, they will likely be traded or placed on waivers.

Wisely will have his first turn through the waiver wire. The left-handed bat posted a .587 OPS with seven home runs and 49 RBI in 457 plate appearances split across three seasons.

This includes a memorable, walk-off home run against the Los Angeles Dodgers last June.

The 2024 Giants could not find any consistency. Nevertheless, there will always be some fun stories to tell from that season, as there is with every season.

Years down the road, you will likely recall this swing of the bat and Wisely's name. You may even recall where you were when this happened.

It did not quite click with Wisely. There was a brief moment last season, where it looked like he was beginning to establish himself as a utility player.

The 26-year-old infielder was finding a lot of holes in the defense, but not hitting for much power. That BABIP luck waned, and so did his offensive production. That said, Wisely did offer some versatility and speed on the bases. If the bat ever gets going, he might find a job as a reliable bench player.

In the meantime, Giants fans will always have this cool moment from Wisely.
