Red Sox, Mets managerial messes deservedly stole thunder from Tony Vitello's Giants

Maybe it's better to fly under the radar.

The SF Giants have looked a bit better as of late. The team is now at 13-15 on the year and new manager Tony Vitello has seemed to settle into the role more. Yet, that development has been more than a bit overshadowed due to managerial turmoil around baseball.

The Boston Red Sox just shockingly fired Alex Cora. Boston was off to a 10-17 start on the season and they decided to clean house getting rid of basically all of the coaching staff.

The New York Mets could also potentially shake things up at manager. They are 9-19 on the season and lost 12 games in a row at one point. They went into a bizarre nosedive after they took care of the Giants early in the season so manager Carlos Mendoza could be out of a job soon especially after the collapse the team had last season.

The team the Giants will start a three-game series with tomorrow night, the Philadelphia Phillies, have also been awful to start the season as they are 9-19 as well. The Giants took two out of three games against them a few weeks ago so if the Phillies don’t turn it around Rob Thomson may be out as well.

As managers around MLB are on the hot seat, Vitello is getting more comfortable

That would be a lot of managerial carnage in April alone. Meanwhile, Vitello is getting the Giants to play a little better and new manager Craig Stammen looks to be doing just fine as a first-time manager with the San Diego Padres. The Friars are right there with the Los Angeles Dodgers atop the National League West so the new skippers may be doing better than the old hands so far.

It’s actually a good thing that the national media is busy focusing on all the managerial happenings on the east coast. Giants fans are well aware that the east coast bias reigns supreme but if the Giants can get something going under Vitello and get on a little bit of a run it would not be the worst thing to fly under the radar.

When the Giants won their World Series titles last decade, they always flew under the radar. They were never the favorites and were always seen as the underdogs so other teams often underestimated them.

Vitello could even use that to his advantage this season. Maybe he can try to put a chip on the shoulder of the entire team by saying they’re overlooked or not taken seriously especially if they do get hot at some point and are in the playoff hunt.

For now though, the Giants just need to keep their heads down, ignore the noise out east, and continue to win games. If they can stack up wins and just focus on trying to win every series then that will lead to very good things down the road.
