The SF Giants took the second game of the series against the Seattle Mariners on Saturday. They will now lean on Robbie Ray in the rubber match to help them secure a series win on the road.
SF Giants probable pitchers & starting lineups vs. Seattle Mariners, August 25
This will be a return to familiar territory for Ray. The southpaw pitcher inked a five-year, $115 million contract with Seattle before the 2022 season. This was on the heels of his 2021 AL CY Young campaign where he posted a 2.84 ERA in 32 starts for the Toronto Blue Jays. A surprise trade sent Ray to the Giants last winter.
It has been a mixed bag for Ray this season. That is to be expected as he is returning from Tommy John surgery. It often takes pitchers a long time after they return to the mound to regain their pre-surgery form. The lefty pitcher has tallied a 4.88 ERA with 39 strikeouts against 12 walks in 27.2 frames with San Francisco this season.
Who it hot?
Grant McCray has recorded three hits in eight at-bats through the first two games of this series. Plus, he added the first stolen base of his career as the Giants have a little more speed in the lineup now compared to the start of the year. Overall, the lefty bat has nine hits in 33 at-bats since being called up.
Who are the SF Giants facing?
The Mariners have a strong pitching staff and the assignment does not get any easier with Bryan Woo taking the mound. The right-handed hurler has a 2.12 ERA in 12 starts with the Mariners in 2024. He allowed one earned run in six innings in his lone appearance against the Giants last season.
