The SF Giants have hired a very familiar face in Buster Posey to be President of Baseball Operations. His hiring could mean than another familiar face in former general manager Brian Sabean could be welcomed back into the fold.

Sabean served as general manager for the Giants from 1997-2014. He was instrumental in helping to build the Giants teams that had great success in the late 1990's and early 2000's. He also deserves a lot of credit for helping shape the teams that would go on to win the World Series in 2010, 2012, and 2014.

After the 2014 season, he transitioned out of his role as general manager and Bobby Evans took over the day-to-day operations while Sabean took on a more executive role. Evans lasted several years before he was fired after the 2018 season which paved the way for Farhan Zaidi to take over as the President of Baseball Operations.

Sabean stayed on for a little under the Zaidi regime, but it is clear he was not happy and did not feel like he was being listened to at all. Sabean is very old school which clashed with Zaidi's new school approach. Eventually he decided to leave and serve as an advisor for New York Yankees GM Brian Cashman.

Sabean has gone so far as to say that he no longer roots for the Giants. He has also taken issue with manager Bruce Bochy's exit from San Francisco which he feels was forced. It is clear that he was not a big fan of Zaidi's regime.

However, now that Zaidi is gone and Posey has replaced him we could see Sabean be welcomed back into the fold. Tim Kawakami of the San Francisco Standard asked Buster as much following his introductory press conference and Buster said that he had already reached out to Sabean.

Bringing back Sabean would be a very wise move. If the Giants were to hire a smart and capable GM to handle more of the day-to-day and nitty gritty details of the front office and were to bring Sabean back in an advisory role so Posey has an experienced old hand to lean upon, they would be putting Buster in a great position to succeed.

Buster emphasized how excited he was to be part of a team again in his press conference. If he can add Sabean to his team, that will be extremely beneficial for the franchise and could help them return to their glory days.
