The SF Giants are right in the thick of the NL Wild Card race. They are not far behind the Atlanta Braves who are also right in the thick of the race. A familiar face for Giants fans, Jorge Soler, could get his revenge against his former team in this 4-game series between the Braves and Giants beginning tonight in San Francisco.

Jorge Soler can get his revenge against the SF Giants this week

The Giants traded Soler and reliever Luke Jackson to the Braves ahead of the trade deadline. Soler was not terrible in his time with the Giants this season, but he was not great either. His slash line of .240/.333/.419 with 12 home runs and 40 RBI left a lot to be desired for a guy who was meant to be a 30-home run per year threat.

Plus, the Giants were clearly regretting the sizable 3-year $42 million deal they gave him in the offseason that likely would have looked worse and worse the next two years. The fact that the Braves agreed to pay the final two years of his contract was a huge reason the Giants said yes to a deal.

Of course, some fans were confused by the move. Soler was not as great as fans hoped, but he was still a solid contributor for the team. Plus, the Giants traded him to a team ahead of them in the playoff standings that they are going to have to gain ground on if they want to make the postseason. If Soler helps the Braves win a game or two this series and the Giants barely miss out on the postseason, you know that fans are going to complain about the trade.

So far, Soler has done pretty well with the Braves. As of this writing, he has 9 hits in 33 at-bats with the Braves with 2 home runs and 6 RBI. The Braves have also had him play in right field rather than serve as the DH which is exclusively how the Giants used him. It seems like he is enjoying playing for the team that he helped lead to a World Series title back in 2021.

This series against the Braves is very important for the Giants. If they want to make the postseason, it really seems like they need to win at least 2 games against the Braves so they do not lose any ground in this tight race for the NL Wild Card. Let's just hope that Soler does not make the Giants regret trading him by going off in this series.
