Keyner Martinez and Yunior Marte had one of their best starts of the young season and were recognized for it. The SF Giants pitching prospects earned Pitcher of the Week honors in the California League and Northwest League, respectively.

Martinez is off to a relatively slow start, but it has only been three starts. There is not much game data to evaluate.

That said, when the ERA is high for a young pitcher, I typically shift over to strikeouts and walks because ERA can be misleading in the minors. For Martinez, he had 16 strikeouts and five walks in 11.2 innings for the San Jose Giants. He is getting hitters to swing and miss, and that is an encouraging sign.

Martinez was one of the many young Giants pitching prospects to pop up last summer. He helped anchor a rotation for the Arizona Complex League that also featured Argenis Cayama and Luis De La Torre. All three made it to San Jose by the end of last season, and De La Torre is now with the Eugene Emeralds.

Last week, San Jose faced off against the Ontario Tower Buzzers in a six-game series. They split the series, winning the first three games and losing the final three.

Martinez competed in one of those wins. He pitched five shutout innings with seven strikeouts and one walk in a 12-2 victory. Martinez only allowed one hit in that outing.

On the other hand, Yunior Marte has been one of the best arms in the Emeralds’ rotation. This unit also just got a boost with the return of Jacob Bresnahan.

Marte has a 1.89 ERA with 17 strikeouts and eight walks in 19 innings this year. Similar to Martinez, he completed five shutout innings in a 5-2 win over the Hillsboro Hops. Marte also tallied six strikeouts against two walks. The Emeralds secured a series victory over the Hops, winning five out of six games.

The Giants' minor league affiliates are all off to strong starts in 2026. San Jose and Eugene have been the best in their respective leagues.
