The SF Giants continued to trim the camp roster on Tuesday. A pair of lefties in Antonio Jimenez and Helcris Olivárez were among the five players reassigned to minor league camp according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Sergio Alcántara, Justin Garza, and Adrián Sugastey rounded out the rest of the group that was reassigned to the minors. Sugastey was not originally extended a camp invite but was a late entrant following the Tom Murphy injury.
There is always a need for extra catchers in spring training and the young Giants backstop filled that void. He appeared briefly in the Cactus League, recording two hits and two RBI in nine at-bats. Sugastey, along with Onil Perez, are some of the better Giants catching prospects in the organization.
Garza has a bit of major league experience. He has tallied a 5.74 ERA in 38 appearances split between the Cleveland Guardians and Boston Red Sox. The Giants signed him to a minor league deal around this time last year. He registered a 3.42 ERA in 37 outings with the Sacramento River Cats last season.
The Giants added Sergio Alcántara on a minor league deal earlier this offseason. He is a switch-hitting middle infielder, so he checks off a lot of boxes. However, he is lower on the depth chart than Casey Schmitt, Brett Wisely, and Osleivis Basabe. Alcántara had three hits in 18 at-bats this spring.
Perhaps, Atonio Jimenez and Helcris Olivárez are the most notable cuts from this round. The Giants extended non-roster invites to eight left-handed pitchers this spring. They only have one left-handed reliever in Erik Miller on the 40-man roster, so there is an open competition for the second lefty in the bullpen. With the latest batch of cuts, Joey Lucchesi and Enny Romero are the only non-roster southpaw pitchers in camp.
There was some early buzz surrounding Antonio Jimenez this spring. Manager Bob Melvin spoke positively about his bullpens to a group of reporters. Jimenez allowed three earned runs in 2.2 frames with San Francisco. He had one poor outing mixed in with two quality appearances.
On the other hand, Helcris Olivárez joined the Giants late last season and allowed two runs in two innings with the Richmond Flying Squirrels. He will tally big strikeout totals but with below-average control. Olivárez completed two scoreless innings with four strikeouts in the Cactus League this spring.
