One SF Giants reliever that will likely be traded before 2026 MLB trade deadline

So much of our SF Giants coverage on the trade deadline has focused on the expiring contracts, including Luis Arráez, Robbie Ray, and Tyler Mahle, but another name should be on the move as well. JT Brubaker has not often been mentioned in trade talks this season, but he is on an expiring deal, too.

The trade return for rentals tends to be modest at best, but teams can sweeten the deal by pitching in cash or attaching a controllable player. Heliot Ramos has often come up as a controllable player who could be on the move.

The Giants have not begun selling off pieces yet, but activity should begin to pick up over the weekend. The trade deadline is on August 3. My old-guy-yells-at-cloud take is that the trade deadline should always be on July 31 because that is tradition. However, I never get a vote on these things.

The Giants should have an active trade deadline. Their performance on the field has made the direction easy for the front office. There has been no last-minute surge that adjusts their trade deadline approach.

SF Giants should trade JT Brubaker before the trade deadline

No, they are sellers and they have played like that since the season began. They probably would not be opposed to moving one of their larger contracts, but the odds of that remain low. Rental players are the easiest to move.

They only have a handful of those, including JT Brubaker. Teams always need pitching around this time of year.

The Giants signed him to a minor league deal near the end of last season. He only made a handful of appearances with the club in 2025, but they tendered him a contract for this season. He is earning $1.8 million, and that is not a prohibitive amount.

The veteran pitcher has posted 3.10 ERA, 3.93 FIP, 1.16 WHIP, 6.2 K/9, and a 1.80 so/w ratio 52.1 frames this season. These are solid results, even if much of his work has come in low leverage opportunities.

The low strikeout totals and relatively high walk rate are all too characteristic of the Giants' bullpen. This is an area that they should look to improve, and it is relatively easy to go up from here.

The Giants do not need Brubaker to finish out the season with the club. Other than soaking up innings, he would not offer much value to remain on the roster. Then again, every team needs pitching around this time of year. The return might end up being a lower-ranked prospect, but they should be open for business on this front.
