The SF Giants have won three games in a row and just beat the best team in MLB twice in one day, but it seems like their chances for a sweep to build upon the momentum they have are going to get rained on…literally.
Rain has been a factor the whole series against the Atlanta Braves as the weather stopped play on Tuesday night after just an inning and a half. That postponed the game to Wednesday where the Giants finished that game and then played again at night.
The series finale is set to take place on Thursday night at 6:15 PM EST or 3:15 PM PST but rain is in the forecast all day in Atlanta with some thunderstorms expected as well.
Maybe the two teams will just try to play through the weather or they can try to move up the start time to avoid the weather but we saw how unpredictable things were on Tuesday and how the Braves didn’t exactly plan ahead all that well. They didn’t have the tarp on the field and then waited a long time until they made a postponement decision but it actually worked to San Francisco’s advantage.
UPDATE: Thursday night's game has been postponed until August 31.
Tonight's #SFGiants game at Atlanta has been postponed due to rain and rescheduled on Monday, August 31 at 6:05pm ET.

Rain has helped Giants vs. Braves but may stall their momentum
It cut Adrian Houser’s start short after just one inning which was probably for the best and allowed the Giants to use Robbie Ray as the pitcher for basically the rest of the game. Because it was a preexisting game the Braves had a lot of left-handed hitters in the lineup because they were originally set to face Houser. That was a perfect matchup for the lefty Ray who had his best outing of the year, pitching 6 and 1/3 scoreless innings.
Then, the Giants were able to use Carson Whisenhunt as their 27th man in the second game on Wednesday and he was very solid in his start, allowing two runs in five innings of work. The offense came alive as well, scoring seven runs in both games so it was one of the rare instances where both the lineup and pitching staff were on point in the same game.
But any hopes of continuing this little surge of momentum and maybe even winning four games in a row for the first time this year (gasp) may go down the drain thanks to the weather.
Evan Webeck of the California Post notes that the Braves and Giants play in San Francisco next week and could potentially schedule a doubleheader then, but the Braves probably don’t want to sacrifice a home game just to make things more convenient for the Giants. They may have to reschedule the game for later in the season if it does get postponed. If they beat the Braves in September or something will it still count as a sweep?
Latest forecast for tomorrow is...not looking good.

(Brown line = chance of rain)#SFGiants host Braves next week, but it's not clear Atlanta would agree to sacrificing the gate $$$ to make up game w/ double-header in SF. pic.twitter.com/zFfuI60ziF
This season has gone poorly for the Giants and it seems fitting that right when they get on a little roll Mother Nature says, “Not so fast!” There is no official word on a delay or postponement as of yet but this article will be updated as information becomes available.
