The SF Giants have their new manager in Tony Vitello which means the attention will now turn to addressing the roster in the offseason. One MLB insider thinks the Giants would be a good fit for three starting pitchers who could be traded.
President of baseball operations Buster Posey has been clear that adding pitching will be a priority this offseason. Going the free agent route could have some pitfalls which is why the Giants may be better served going the trade route.
MLB insider and former general manager Jim Bowden of The Athletic took a look at some of the top potential stars who could be traded this offseason and linked three pitchers to the Giants. Let's take a look at those three.
SF Giants seen as trade fit for three starting pitchers
Freddy Peralta
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Freddy Peralta was masterful in 2025. He had a 17-6 record with a 2.70 ERA in 33 starts. He earned his second career All-Star nod and recorded 204 strikeouts in 176 and 2/3 innings pitched.
We know the Brewers do not like to pay their starting pitchers like Corbin Burnes which is why they may try to trade Peralta in the same way they traded Burnes. Peralta would look really good alongside Logan Webb at the top of San Francisco's rotation so maybe the Giants can make a big trade for him.
Tarik Skubal
Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal may be the white whale for teams looking to add a starter. He will likely win his second consecutive AL Cy Young Award this offseason and has been one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball the last few seasons.
It will not be easy for any team to land Skubal in a trade, but he would be worth it with what he brings to the table as one of the best pitchers in baseball.
Hunter Greene
Cincinnati Reds pitcher Hunter Greene is yet another ace pitcher who could be dealt this offseason. He had a 2.76 ERA in 19 starts last season. Greene throws absolute heat and would give the Giants a major flamethrower at the top of their rotation.
The Giants clearly need more starting pitching depth after they simply ran out of arms by the end of the 2025 season. Adding one of these ace pitchers would be difficult but would absolutely transform the team's rotation going into 2026.
