SF Giants fans are frustrated about everything right now as the team is at 20-30 and is ten games under .500. Fans are particularly frustrated with the way the team has chosen to handle its top prospect Bryce Eldridge. Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow just added gasoline to the flame with his latest take on Eldridge.

Ahead of Wednesday’s series finale, Krukow appeared on KNBR and spoke about Eldridge's irregular presence in the batting order, something even Eldridge said he's been surprised about:

“I know everybody’s upset and frustrated and wants to see this guy hit more, but quite honestly he hasn’t earned the right to do it,” Krukow said.

Krukow went on to say that Eldridge should be sent down to Triple-A where he can get more regular at-bats because he isn’t ready for the big leagues.

Many fans on social media did not love Krukow’s take and pointed out the fact that he is losing at-bats to guys like Drew Gilbert and Will Brennan who aren't doing much of anything offensively. Even when Eldridge has shown signs of “earning” more opportunities like when he hit his first big league home run or recorded two hits in the first game of the series in Arizona, he was benched the next game.

Eldridge's solid game on Wednesday should make him a lineup regular

Of course, Krukow made his comments before the game on Wednesday in which Eldridge recorded a very impressive double that came on a ball he crushed into center field. He hit the ball hard in his other at-bats as well so he is proving that he can put some really strong swings on the ball.

The overall numbers aren’t all that pretty as he’s hitting .156/.229/.281 with one homer and two runs batted in, but when he’s made contact with the ball it has often been loud.

Either way, whether it is in the big leagues or in Triple-A Eldridge should be getting regular at-bats. It will be hard to start him every single day in the big leagues but he should be starting most days. Stick Casey Schmitt in left field and make Eldridge the designated hitter. That should be the arrangement going forward.

The Giants are ten games under .500. Fans are quickly running out of hope. Krukow is right that Eldridge has not made it completely undeniable for the Giants to put him in the lineup, but at this point they might as well just let him work through the ups and downs. At least that way the Giants can get something out of what is increasingly looking like a lost season.
