Mike Krukow gives Logan Webb, SF Giants a wake-up call ahead of trade deadline

After the SF Giants got swept by the Kansas City Royals in the most 2026 Giants fashion imaginable, one must be careful not to turn their head so quickly to the trade deadline that they pull a neck muscle even though this season really can’t be over soon enough.

The trade deadline is on August 3 and the Giants are going to make at least some moves. If the wheels really fall off in the next week and a half they may end up making a lot of moves.

As far as we know, the only “untouchable” in trade talks the Giants have publicly identified is ace Logan Webb. Yet, Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow appeared on KNBR recently and said that the Giants should not have any untouchables going into the trade deadline.

“I think that right now everybody could be included in a trade. Literally everybody. That includes Webb, that includes the ‘big three’ that includes [Heliot] Ramos, it includes [Casey] Schmitt, it includes everybody.”

The fact that Krukow throws Webb into that mix says a lot. Buster Posey said the Giants are not entertaining trade offers on the ace which may have just been a negotiation tactic but it also could have been a sincere affirmation that the Giants want Webb to stay put.

Krukow knows that things need to change with how bad this season has been so that could mean getting rid of a guy who has been a leader in the clubhouse and the best player on the team this decade. That should serve as a wake-up call to Webb and everyone on the team that no one is safe.

Giants cannot afford to be sentimental at the trade deadline

San Francisco is 42-60 on the season. The Giants just got swept by a Royals team that was 40-60 entering the series. They’re about to take on a Los Angeles Angels team that would be thought of as an easy opponent pretty much any other year but not in 2026.

The Giants could just trade Luis Arraez and Robbie Ray and call it a day, but if there are teams out there willing to give the Giants a big haul for a guy like Webb or Ramos or Jung Hoo Lee then they have to listen. 

Would it be sad to see Webb or Lee go after they’ve become fan-favorites? Absolutely, but the Giants simply cannot afford to be sentimental this deadline. That doesn’t mean trade everyone for the heck of it but it does mean listen on everyone and pull the trigger if the return is worth it.

Krukow has watched a lot of Giants baseball and is one of the most trusted voices by fans so if he’s saying the Giants should be open to trading everyone then fans should be prepared for the possibility that some big names will be dealt in the next week and a half.
