Logan Webb's latest comments do not bode well for SF Giants manager Bob Melvin

The SF Giants have missed the playoffs yet again and have finished in the middle for a fourth consecutive season. There are a lot of things to address in the offseason, and Logan Webb's latest comments do not bode well for Bob Melvin.

After the Giants were officially eliminated on Tuesday after a strong start from Webb that was blown by the bullpen, he got pretty frank and honest about the disappointment that was the 2025 season:

Webb said, "This is the most talented team I've been on," and went on to describe how disappointing it was to get off to a hot start in 2025 and then to make a big move for a player like Rafael Devers in June only for them to end up right around .500 yet again.

Webb went on to say, "It's kind of hard to pinpoint when things go wrong, unfortunately it just seems like we've let it stay wrong for a long time." He also said that president of baseball operations Buster Posey is not okay with losing and that there are not many people in the clubhouse okay with how things transpired this season.

These are not direct shots at manager Bob Melvin, but they certainly do not reflect well on him. The Giants did have a team that was talented enough to reach the playoffs this season. They just did not fully realize the potential that was on the roster which is always going to reflect poorly on a coaching staff.

The fact that things got so bad in the summer really made it feel like there was no way Melvin could come back next season, but the Giants seemed to have saved his job with their strong start to September which got them back in the playoff conversation only for them to taper off yet again at the end of the year with some uninspired play.

Now, moving on from Melvin is firmly on the table even if the Giants did exercise the option in his contract for 2026. Webb is a guy who has defended and supported Melvin in the past, but he may be realizing that something has to be shaken up yet again to fully get this team over the hump and out of the mediocrity they have been embroiled in for four seasons.

We will see what Posey decides to do, but Webb's comments certainly do not create the impression that Melvin's job is fully secure after another disappointing season.
