On Thursday, MLB Pipeline handed out its pitching and hitting prospects of the year for each organization. For Jacob Bresnahan, it was a return to familiar territory, as he earned the SF Giants Pitching Prospect of the Year for the second straight year.
Bresnahan has been piling up the awards since he was taken in the 13th round of the 2023 draft by the Cleveland Guardians. Of course, he came over to the Giants, along with Nate Furman, in a deal that sent Alex Cobb to Cleveland in 2024.
Since then, Bresnahan has earned Pitcher of the Year honors in the California League and Northwest League in successive seasons. He also earned that distinction in the Arizona Complex League (ACL) while he was still with the Guardians organization.
For the past couple of years, Bresnahan has been the best pitching prospect in the Giants organization. They have raised the ceiling of that area of the farm system with the additions of Jackson Flora and Ramon Marquez.
Both SF Giants prospects should play alongside one another in Double-A in 2027
Bresnahan seemingly gets better as the weather warms up, and this year was no different. He missed most of the first month of the year with an injury before joining the Eugene Emeralds.
It took a couple of starts for Bresnahan to find his footing in the Northwest League. By the middle of June, he hit his stride.
Over the left-handed pitcher’s final 12 outings with Eugene, he posted a 2.10 ERA with 80 strikeouts and 18 walks in 68.2 innings. Bresnahan earned a promotion to Double-A before to end or the season.
On the hitting side, and no surprise whatsoever, Jhonny Level was recognized as the Giants’ Hitting Prospect of the Year. He began the season in the California League, but quickly proved to be above that level of competition and moved up to High-A.
The switch-hitter recorded an .836 OPS with eight home runs and 40 RBI in High-A while being one of the youngest position players at that level. He tallied 39 doubles across two levels, which was among the leaders in the minors. Level will likely join Bresnahan at Double-A at some point next season.
